This qualification is designed for individuals who have contact with children, young people or vulnerable adults in their working or voluntary roles. It promotes a deeper awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and supports learners in developing the confidence to identify concerns and ensure they are reported and acted upon appropriately.  

The course emphasises both legal responsibilities and best practice, helping organisations strengthen their safeguarding culture and ensure the safety and wellbeing of those in their care.

This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).  

What You Will Learn

Throughout the course, learners will explore:

• Key elements of safeguarding law relating to children, young people and vulnerable adults

• How to safeguard and protect individuals within a workplace setting

• How practitioners can protect themselves from allegations and complaints in everyday practice

• How concerns can be reported appropriately

• The characteristics of different types of abuse affecting children, young people and vulnerable adults

• The correct actions to take in response to evidence or suspicion of abuse

• How to respond appropriately to disclosures

• Who information about abuse or suspected abuse should be shared with  

Course Duration

The classroom-based qualification requires 7 guided learning hours with a total qualification time of 8 hours. It can be delivered in one day or completed over a maximum of three weeks, with each session lasting at least two hours.  

A maximum of 12 learners are permitted per trainer in a classroom setting.  

Assessment

Classroom-based learners are assessed through a written assessment. Learners must successfully complete the assessment to achieve the qualification.  

Certification

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Level 3 Award in Principles of Safeguarding and Protecting Children, Young People or Vulnerable Adults. The qualification does not have an expiry date; however, it is strongly recommended that learners undertake annual refresher training and maintain ongoing professional development to stay current with changes in legislation, policy and safeguarding practice.  

This qualification supports organisations in strengthening safeguarding standards and ensuring that those working with vulnerable individuals understand both their responsibilities and the appropriate procedures to follow.
