This qualification provides a clear understanding of safeguarding and can be applied in workplaces, activity groups or any environment where individuals have contact with children or adults at risk. It equips learners with the knowledge to recognise safeguarding concerns, respond appropriately to disclosures, and report concerns to the correct person or authority.  

The course supports the development of safer environments by increasing awareness of legislation, responsibilities and best practice when working with vulnerable individuals.

This qualification is regulated in the UK and awarded by First Aid Awards (FAA).  

What You Will Learn

Throughout the course, learners will explore:

• What safeguarding means and the key legislation that underpins it

• The roles and responsibilities within safeguarding partnerships

• Who holds safeguarding responsibility within an organisation

• Different types of abuse

• Signs and indicators of physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse and neglect

• What action to take if a safeguarding concern arises

• How and to whom safeguarding concerns should be reported  

Course Duration

The classroom-based qualification requires 4 guided learning hours with a total qualification time of 5 hours. It can be delivered in one day or completed over a maximum of two weeks, with each session lasting at least two hours.  

A maximum of 16 learners are permitted per trainer in a classroom setting.  

Assessment

Classroom-based learners are assessed through a written assessment. Learners must successfully complete the assessment to achieve the qualification.  

Certification

Upon successful completion, learners will receive a Level 1 Award in Awareness of Safeguarding. The qualification does not have an expiry date; however, it is strongly recommended that learners undertake annual refresher training and keep up to date with changes in policies, procedures and legislation through continued professional development.  

This qualification helps ensure that individuals are better prepared to recognise concerns, respond appropriately and contribute to creating safe and supportive environments for those at risk.
